Many people underestimate the gravity of the connection between cultural idioms and the angelic rebellion.
When we hear that ‘misery loves company’ or ‘hurt people, hurt people’, we don’t connect that this is a key that unlocks an insight into the enemy’s strategy. Who and what is the enemy? Anything or anyone opposed to love.
Ezekiel 28:14-17 describes Satan as an anointed cherub who covers. To ‘cover’ in this context is to guard. God covers us, and when Adam and Eve fell, they felt exposed. So, an angelic being meant to guard rebelled, thereby breaking his covenant with God and heaven, subsequently corrupting other heavenly beings, and has been influencing mankind to break their covenant with the Most High God and His Kingdom ever since. They rejected God’s love and have influenced humans to gravitate to unloving words, thoughts, and deeds. Misery loves company.
Let’s explore these parallels with daily life.
Consider someone you know who is rebellious, and reflect on the underlying cause of their rebellion. This is where ‘hurt people, hurt people’ applies. Rebellion is often the result of feeling failed, betrayed, deceived, abused, traumatized, or rejected. This is how street gangs form. Could the fallen ones be the first example of a street gang? Hmm.
The gospel of Jesus Christ is so simple, as Matthew 3:2 states, “Repent, for the Kingdom is at hand.” Jesus Christ even goes into detail about what to expect:
Matthew 24: 10-14
10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
When we repent, we turn back to love, which makes the directive straightforward: Turn back to love, for the Kingdom is at hand. The gospel of the Kingdom is love.
As we navigate life, we should let love be our guiding compass. Test every message, every person, every opportunity, every spirit, every piece of advice with love as the benchmark.
Dear God,
Thank You for the blessing of surrender. I repent for any time I have chosen offense over understanding. I lay every fear, every worry, every impulse outside of Your will and way at the foot of Your throne and surrender to You. Increase my foresight and wisdom to understand long-term benefits and consequences. Thank You for Your grace and mercy.
